Dear Friend,
For many of us, getting older brings changes.
Some things may take a little longer. You may need help with something you once did on your own. Or perhaps you're caring for someone whose needs are changing.
Those changes can be difficult.
But needing support doesn't mean giving up your independence.

Independence Isn't Doing Everything Alone
Sometimes we think being independent means never needing help.
But healthy independence can also mean knowing what you can do, recognizing where you need support, and making choices that help you continue enjoying the life that matters to you.
For older adults, that might mean accepting a ride to the grocery store while continuing to prepare meals you enjoy.”
For caregivers, it might mean stepping in when needed while allowing your loved one to make choices and do what they can safely do for themselves.
Focus on What You CAN Do
It's easy to notice what has changed.
But let's also notice what's still possible.
Can you take a short walk?
Prepare part of a meal?
Call a friend?
Choose what you'd like to wear or how you'd like to spend your afternoon?
These everyday choices matter. They help preserve confidence, dignity, and a sense of control.
We're Better Together
Older adults: asking for help doesn't erase your independence.
Caregivers: supporting someone doesn't mean doing everything for them.
Sometimes the best support is simply asking:
"How can I help?"
And then listening.
This Month's Small Win
Choose one everyday activity you want to make safer, easier, or more enjoyable.
Maybe it's organizing medications, clearing a safer walking path at home, preparing meals together, or asking for help with transportation.
One small change can make daily life a little easier.
A Question to Talk About
What helps me feel independent, and where would a little support make life easier?
Talk about it together.
No pressure. No perfection.
Just one small win toward living well—with support when you need it.
With encouragement,
